War Memorial Isle of Lewis

(United Kingdom - Scotland - Stornoway)

This memorial commemorates the residents of the Isle of Lewis who died in the First and Second World War. Sometimes also the names of those who died in other wars like peace operations are written on the memorial.

Many of these memorials were erected after the First World War. After the Second World War, the names of those who died in that war were also added to the memorial.

The memorial at Stornoway was erected in the aftermath of the First World War, which had a huge impact on the Isle of Lewis. 1,300 people were killed in the Great War, out of a population of 30,000.

Apart from this memorial, there are about 20 other war memorials scattered all over Lewis and Harris.
