Memorial Sook Ching Massacre

This memorial is located at the Hong Lim Complex in Chinatown, one of the locations where Chines men were to report themselves.
To remove anti-Japanese elements during the Japanese occupation of Singapore in the Second World War, Chinese men between the ages of 18 and 50 were to report themselves to the Japanese. In the Sook Ching massacre, thousands of them were murdered. The death toll was reported to be 6,000 by the Japanese, but official estimates range between 25,000 and 50,000, or even 100,000.
The massacre took place from 18 February, three days after the British surrendered, to 4 March 1942 at various places in the region.
