On the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Standdaarbuiten is a Dutch war grave of a airman, this is the grave of Frans Looyen.
Franciscus Cornelis Henricus (Frans) Looijen was a reserve sergeant. He got airborne with two other Dutch fighters on May 10th 1940 at 7:30 in his Fokker D21 from the airport Ruigenhoek in Noordwijk. The trio shot a German Junkers 52 down. Looking for more goals, Frans was at one point followed by five German Messerschmidt 109's. He was unable to escape and was shot, he crashed into the IJsselmeer. F.C.H. Looijen is buried at the Catholic cemetery in Standdaarbuiten.
Frans is commemorated on the War Memorial in Standdaarbuiten.
