Liberty Road - Kilometer 0
(France - Basse-Normandie - Sainte-Mère-Église)
The Liberty Highway has two paths, one to Bastogne, the other via Reims, Verdun, Metz to Strasbourg. This one follows the route to Bastogne.
There is a lot of confusion about where exactly the Kilometer 0 pole is located. For example, there is also " Liberty Highway - Kilometer 00 , which is placed at Utah beach.
Geographically, the place at Utah beach is the actual location where the Americans went on the beaches of France. Chronologically speaking, Sainte-Mère-Eglise was liberated earlier than Utah beach by the U.S. paratroopers.
Behind Kilometer 0 is a monument placed what commemorates the 22 victims of Sainte-Mère-Eglise (including a WOI verteraan).
