Mobilization memorial Groede
(Netherlands, the - Zeeland - Groede)
Groede is one of the coastal villages of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen which was saved during WW2. During the mobilization period from august 1939 till October 1939 and from January 1940 till may 11th 1940 the 40th infantry regiment was encamped here. On may 11th, one day after the German invasion, the regiment boarded a ship in Vlissingen Harbour with destination IJmuiden. At the tower of the church in Groede you will find a plaque to commemorate this mobilization period.
