Memorial Robert Vekemans Boom
(Belgium - Antwerp - Boom)
Robert Vekemans (3/2/1913 - 22/10/1998) told the Allies about this small bridge, the Weduwe Van Enschodtbrug, which was not defended by the Germans. So the Allies could attack the German defenders of the large A-12 bridge at Boom from behind, and easily conquer the large bridge.
Because of this, the Allies were able to liberate Antwerp the same day. Robert Vekemans stayed with them as guide.
