Joe Mann Memorial

(Netherlands, the - North Brabant - Best)

The Joe Mann monument commemorates the liberation of the Best by the allied forces. The reason that the monument is called "Joe Mann", is due to the action of the U.S. Paratrooper Joe Mann. He protected the lives of his comrades, by throwing himself on a grenade.

i recently viewed a documentary on the pfc joe mann monument on the pentagon cable channel. the significance of the white pelican to the dutch culture and its relevance to the pfc. mann monument was explained in some detail. it was very humbling to read pfc. mann's moh citation. i was very impressed by the monument and the town's people that made it a reality. we were fortunate to have men like pfc. joe mann when we needed them!
